To make NIL Clubs safe and compliant for all athletes and supporters we require that all people use their true identity on NIL Clubs.
We also have a dedicated Trust & Safety Team that works hard to ensure NIL Clubs are a safe and reliable environment for all members. We’ve outlined a list of security tips below to further protect your safety and privacy when using NIL Clubs.
KNOWN SCAM:
Chat messages or direct messages from NIL Clubs
NIL Clubs do not use direct messaging or chat to reach out to users or supporters.
If you receive a message from an account named assistant, support or help or claiming to be an athlete or supporter do not respond or provide financial or personal information. Do not click links or use QR codes to unknown sites. Please report the message by contacting NIL Clubs.
Protect yourself from fraud and scams
Fraud / scams are any type of wrongful or criminal deception, or dishonest schemes intended to result in financial or personal gain. Scams are ever-evolving so it’s important to always exercise caution and common sense. This could be the sale of high value items for a low price or someone raising funds for a local fundraiser. It's always good to do your research.
Don’t pay anyone you haven’t met in person. Scammers will sometimes ask members to accept or make payments with gift cards, wire transfers or through an online third-party. If a requested arrangement doesn’t feel right to you (ex. you’re being rushed with the transaction), don’t proceed with it. Better safe than sorry.
Never make a payment with a gift card
If someone asks you to make a payment with a gift card, there’s a high probability it’s a scam. If you believe this has happened to you, reach out to the gift card issuer; they might enable you to reclaim the funds. Lastly, please report it to the Federal Trade Commission.
Never give out personal information. Financial information (bank account numbers, credit cards, your SSN) is especially precious. Avoid giving out this information. You may want to avoid giving out private contact information like your email address or your phone number, unless you know someone personally.
Protect yourself from phishing
Phishing is an attempt to access your account or record your personal information. This could involve asking you to enter your login or two factor authentication or other sensitive information into a fake website. Scammers try to trick people with fake offers of free, rare, secret, or exclusive digital goods (e.g. coins, chips, gifts).
Beware of:
Messages with misspellings and typos, multiple fonts, or oddly-placed accents.
Messages that claim to have your password attached.
Messages that will give you free or bonus money
Mismatched HTML links. When you hover over a link in a post, look at the status bar at the bottom of your browser window to see if the link shows what is expected. If you are unsure do not click on the link.
Messages asking for your personal information. NIL Clubs will never ask you for:
Your account password
SSN or your tax identification number
Security questions (mother’s maiden name, childhood nickname, favorite teacher, etc.)
Protect yourself from spam
Spam is generally defined as unwanted, unsolicited, and/or repeated actions that negatively affect users and the NIL Club community. This may include but is not limited to
Sending large amounts of direct messages to users who are not expecting them
Contacting people with unwanted content or requests
Repeatedly posting or sharing the same or similar content
Posting unoriginal/templated content with no personalization or original commentary
Repeatedly texting someone unsolicited messages
Repeatedly texting someone invitations to support NIL Clubs
Repeatedly texting someone invitations to join NIL Clubs
Don’t click on suspicious links
If you encounter any suspicious links (odd formatting, typos, foreign domains), do not click on them nor enter any data as it’s likely it’s spam & might prompt installation of malicious software.
If you received something that turned out to be spam, report the member to NIL Clubs for review.
It is a good idea to consider running antivirus / antispyware software.
What to do when you encounter malicious activity
Report spam and suspicious posts to the NIL Club.If you see content from the NIL Club that looks like spam / fraud, report the content. This will notify the NIL Club Review Team who will review it against our Community Guidelines.
Report the user to NIL Clubs to review. Report any member who is posting problematic content or illegal content or misinformation. It’s also helpful to reference example posts/comments and explain why they are malicious.
Report compromised financial information. If you suspect that your financial information might be compromised through phishing, contact your bank or credit card company immediately. In addition, consider following the steps listed in the Federal Trade Commission’s Identity Theft website.
Report fraud to law enforcement. If you were defrauded by someone you met in person or on the internet contact your local police department. NIL Club is not able to investigate interactions that have occurred outside of the platform.
A strong community looks out for each other. When you encounter malicious or fraudulent activity during an NIL dealing, create a post or message with details of the fraud or scam to warn other users what to look out for after reporting.
